I am considering starting over. The stairs were complex, the new layout is different anyway. So I do not lose much there. The main reason I am considering it is so I can fix issues with scale and the front bay area. The one drawback to starting over is the corbeling that is very complex. If the corbeling had been all on surfaces parellel to an axis, I would not have a problem. However, some is on that bay. It would be simpler with the bay's problems fixed, but SketchUp would still cause me problems because the push tool leaves a gap when I use it on angled surfaces. I then have to fill that gap.

Give me a day to think it over.
<!--

You can download a free SketchUp viewer from http://www.sketchup.com/?sid=40 which is only 3.5 to 5 megabytes. The full version of SketchUp is 13 megs. The full version of GE is also about 13 megs. I recommend the SketchUp version. However, I may try it shortly with GE4. I expect to have it downloaded tomorrow.

Notes:
* Sometime after the new season starts, expect me to revise the stairs in the model. I may also make other changes. I would not be supprised if there are more dormers as I can see the building in only one photo. If you can see more photo on the page below, please either e-mail them to me or links to the actual image.
* If someone has sample images of actual materials in the actual building (before or after), please send them to me. Please state where the material is used and whether I should apply it to the before model or the after model.
* I need after floor plans to complete that model. I have to assume there will be at least some floor plan changes and/or material changes. If they do not have those yet, Tommy must be screaming.
* Does anyone see images in the page Check Out Some 'Before' Shots of Our Fall '06 Project House?

My source: http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/tvprograms/houseproject/overview/0,16542,1188668,00.html.
<!--

I do not know which stairs lead there or if there are dormers facing the directions I can't see. I also do not know if it is just one room or divided up somehow.

Basement/crawlspace information -- I assume one of them is present as the house is so far above grade.

Window sizes for the sides of the house no present in the image shown here.

Is the 1st floor rear entrance at grade or on an elevated deck (like the front deck)?

Redesign floor plans -- If the layout is changing, I need to know in order to build a model of that. If the house is only getting structural repairs and system upgrades, this does not matter. However, I need to know at least that.

My new model is coming along. I do have an older version posted. I am not proving a link to that yet as I expect to update it this weekend. I will post a link then. Changes already implemented:

I copied the second floor from the first floor. The floors do not line up as I do not understand SketchUp well enough to fix that. I could not place the floors accurately enough for that.

I fixed the height of some windows. I had them all the same size. However, I noticed the photo had some smaller than others. So I fixed that.

I added a window at the top of the back stairs just below the roof. The photo above showed something there.

I added a door at what I think is ground level leading to the backstairs area. The photo above shows something there that I thought looked like a door. This part of the stairs is not yet implemented and would lead down into the basement.

I implemented a hip roof with the dormers I could see. I estimated the size of the dormers based on hints I saw in the photo.

I have a ceiling under the roof.

Knee walls were added.

I made the front deck more accurate based on the photo. I also added the 2nd floor front deck.

Railing are present in flat areas. They took an hour for just a few feet. So they had better be worth it. Railings on the stairs -- especially these winders -- are beyond my current SketchUp skills.

A still of what I have right now:

<!--

Along the way is a room with a window of some sort overlooking the living room and a mud room with half bath.

Next to the living room fireplace is a small storage room.

Under the mudroom area is a small area that might have been equipped for storage. Otherwise, it would have been wasted.

Under the master bath and the other parts of the master suite (like the area leading to the deck and that deck itself) is a area of unknown usage. Parts over the living room and entrance might have become a raised ceiling. Other parts, like under the master bath (which is also over the bar), might have become an attic-like storage area.

The back of the main stairway was finished with the same stone used outside one the walls and the chimney.

All of these things were not discussed in the show or in the magazine. I also did not see any feature articles on the website about them.

Other areas that received little or no mention:

Two 2nd floor bedrooms -- We never see them before or after

The guest "bedroom" (as it was called on the show) on the 3rd floor is only a loft. It is not enclosed from the bridge. There is no door or privacy other than the elevation. Furthermore, many relators will not list a bedroom as such unless it has a closet. The loft did not have one in the floor plans.

The crew went through the study leading to the master suite, but did not really discuss it.

The backyard patio was mentioned early on when Kevin was told the owner wanted to stay with the same thing. However, the designer mentioned it needed work and that was obvious. Trouble was, we saw nothing done there.

<!--

For instance on the Carlisle farmstead project, they ignored how two roofs over the ell came together. The two roofs in question were at different angles. One was above the other up top, but that reversed farther down. I also thought that house was short a bedroom for what the market required (based on what they told Kevin in the first episode) and the master bedroom needed a fireplace and a deck or patio.

I will also list each SketchUp (a Google program) model I do. I have already completed one for the Cambridge house. Models for the East Boston and Washington DC homes are in progress. Some New Yankee Workshop projects will also be done if they are not too complex.
<!--
